Wednesday 4

Another hot day here, so K and I are staying inside this afternoon to escape the sunburn. I've enjoyed taking some pictures around the house where it is somewhat cooler. I've included some photos of things I made for today's shop update, including some new hairbands with tiny handsewn hydrangea petals.

I found the red dahlias growing in the pile of garden scraps around the back. Even though they're kind of wild and old-fashioned, to me they're somehow the kind of flower that a modern designer might think up.

That old “Encyclopedia of Needlework” catches my eye. I absolutely LOVE to look at old (the older the better!) craft books. I learn so much and see things with a fresh eye, even though I’m looking into the past.

Love the matrushka dolls on the piano. My brother-in-law brought us a set from Moscow where he spent two weeks on a mission for his church. My grandkids love to watch the progression of sizes.

Very nice to see your beautiful escape of the sunburn. Glad about all the red details: mathruska, stripes, flowers!
Here the sun shows himself a little bit too today over the snow. Very happy sunrise.

Oh, pretty, pretty, pretty, Keira and everything.
Right now I crave the sun, but on scorching days there’s nothing better than staying in where it’s cool.

Good to hear the sun is out up your way – low cloud & rain here in Lincoln today. The dahlias are the coolest shade of red. Your DIC needlework guide remdinds me of my mum’s knitting stitch guidebook. She used it right through my childhood for all our jerseys, and now I’ve inherited it – wonderful source material for creating knitting projects.

    I love dahlias.
And I wish we could have some of your heat. There’s snow everywhere and no sign of spring here.

I love dahlias as well, they remind me of my grandfather’s wild garden and the end of the summer. Everywhere in front gardens on the way back from school before the autumn comes. What a fantastic red yours are! I love K’s hairband as well, which might inspire me to do something similar with small poppies for my daughter called…Poppy!Enjoy the warmth over there, here it’s snowing in Stockholm.

Beautiful photos! How I would love to see a bunch of wild dahlias growing in my compost heap, which is currently buried under 2-1/2 feet of snow! Love the red of them. Have a wonderful day!

Thank you for the picture of the dahlias, my Grandpa grew loads of them in his garden. He died when I was very young and the dahlias are one of the things I remember about him!
