A new top was made (well, bought) for K one day when she was home from school last week. I got her to make a design that we could print onto the front, and she drew some hearts, hugs and kisses. As five year old girls are liable to do. I traced the drawing onto freezer paper, cut it out into a stencil and mixed up fabric inks, trying to match the colours on her drawing. (I think I first learned of this technique from this blog post by the clever angry chicken, back in 2006.)

Et voila, a new top to wear to school.

The picture is so refreshing compared to the shopbought logos… may I please clarify one point – did you cut tiny little crosses out of the freezer paper? You must have the patience of a saint. Just gorgeous!

I like the way it looks like a girl draws in her notebook. Pretty little scribbling. She looks so happy in her new shirt.
-I made a design on a sweatshirt once when I was 12. It was a rainbow striped heart and then had all the colors in single hearts around it.

So, I’ve been inspired to do this before, I think from your blog, but was stumped with the freezer paper! Does it go by another name here in NZ?
