I spent a few hours today looking after my two youngest nieces, aged 6 months and 3 years. They didn't seem too interested in any of the toys we had lying around, instead favouring drawers and shelves in the room where I keep all my sewing things. So I pulled out some things with them, and was reminded of how cool the packaging of haberdashery used to be. These are some of my sewing supplies that have been kindly given to me or I've found second-hand. Most of them are kept in a box because I like looking at the packaging more than I want to actually use the notions. I love the fonts used and little slogans, such as 'fashionable buttons', 'always good a like' (I'm not sure what that means), and 'permanently coloured teeth' (on the zipper packaging, of course.)

I know what you mean – I have some old sewing notions too, some from my grandmother and others people have given me. Always makes you wonder about the sewing project that didn’t happen !

They do look awfully nice, and it makes you glad that no one used them back then!

Funnily enough those curious ‘always good a like’ needles were made just down the road from where I live, but I’ve still no idea what that phrase could mean! It’s not something we usually say in conversation round here…

    Hi Melissa,
Today I was in the library looking at a page in a book describing how to make beautiful fabric belts, they used belt accessories like those in your photos – it’s such a good idea I thought I had better share it! I will have to go back and get the book out now! Happy days, Emma x

I love the old tags for everything, when it was art and not just a quick slogan. I also enjoy looking at the prices on them too. So much cheaper because it was more in demand.
(I like your new header/banner too!)

I have some of those Fashionable buttons too and feel exactly the same way about the packaging! I can’t bear to cut the buttons off – they’re like art, aren’t they :^)

When I was little, being allowed to tidy my mother’s sewing box was the greatest treat!
But now I’m puzzling over Always Good A Like…..

I have lots of these old supplies as well – from my mother, grandmothers, aunts, tag sales, and the like. They really are too good to use much of the time. Old product graphics are so wonderful.

I think every one of us crafters has lovely memories of rumaging through someones sewing box or button tin as a child. Perhaps your 3 year old neice will become a crafter….

I have a boxful of old things like this, too. I don’t really want to use them, just keep them for the memories.

After my grandmother died I was bestowed with lots of stuff like this, and now that so many years have passed it has all gotten somewhat dispersed. It’s so nice to have a little collection of things like these.
