Hellebore 3

Hellebore 2

Hellebore 1

Hellebore flowers are not in season here at all but the other day i came across this photo of a hellebore that i must have taken last winter. I love those dark pink hellebores, and the greeny/cream ones too, that are sometimes tinged with red like flushed cheeks.

Anyway, I got my watercolour paints out and then took the painting into town to get printed into postcards. I think I'll send a set to a garden-loving friend who is going into wintertime right now.

I hope you have a lovely weekend, blog-friends.

p.s. if you're in NZ, you might want to take a look at this interesting cultural competition: Mix and Mash. It involves 'remixing' works of art and poetry into your own, new works and there are lots of different categories (including visual art, educational resources, poetry, music, etc) and amazing prizes, too.

Very nice set of postcards. The green Hellebores are one of my favorite flowers, but I never managed to transplant them successfully in my garden. I have an old French plate that I picked at a flea market that has “Rose de Noel” (Christmas Rose, as they flower around Christmas time here) designs painted on – so pretty. Happy weekend, Melissa!

Green Hellebores are one of my favourite flowers too. What a great idea to get the painting copied onto postcards.

Your blog is really a delicious journey. I love the way you always show without telling. I love your paintings. I love your ceramics.
Your blog is among those who pushed me to have mine. It has only a few days. He seeks. I hope to give as much as you want to go there often. If you have 2 minutes, tell me what you think about it, I would be very touched.
I’m very glad because I finally bought you something today, I look forward to receiving my hellebore cards.
Thank you Melissa, Helen from France

Beautiful. I adore hellebores too and collaborated with a textile artist to make hellebore brooches back in the summer. I made the stamens from tiny pearls and peridot. I just posted a photo of them on flickr
I can hardly wait for them to flower again in a few months’ time.

I love hellebores too. I’m sure I saw some flowering here in Wellington today (Central Park)…maybe I was imagining it? Will have to go back & check tomorrow.
