Hello and happy new year!

Here are a few bits of our new house in the capital city. We are living in one of the inner-city suburbs, but we are lucky enough to have a big old house (I think almost 100 years old) with a flat garden out the back for the kids to play in. We've been here for 5 days or so, and are nearly settled in. Mind you, there are enough empty moving boxes to build a small town and the kids' beds haven't arrived yet, (they were sent to Auckland by mistake)  but they shouldn't be too far away. I have started to set up my work stuff in one corner of our big new bedroom and I must admit that it's taking me a while to feel inspired or get started on any projects. Once upon a time, I hated to go through an evening without doing a bit of embroidery or knitting, but these days I seem to quite enjoy just 'being' and doing nothing much of anything.

I think we'll all really enjoy our new life here but it will take a while before it feels like home. We miss our family and friends very much, and hope to go on holidays back in our home town as often as we can.

I'm really not sure what 2012 will bring for me, my creative work and this blog, but I will keep updating this space in the meantime and I want to thank you very much for reading and leaving those kind messages of support over the past month or so. I have lots to share with you- about the great old textiles I've found already, a couple of projects and some amazing mail too.

I hope this year brings much happiness for you and your family.

What a cool house in Welly! Looking forward to visiting the capital again later this year, to take in the V&A wedding dress exhibition at Te Papa (and maybe a sneaky visit to Holland Rd Yarn Co out in Petone…).

My Husband is from Motueka, but we live in Queensland now. In 2008 we visited Wellington for 3 days before heading to his Nanna’s in Waitara..I fell in love with Wellington and know that if we ever make the jump to live in NZ, It’s going to be a hard decision about where we would reside! NZ seems like such an idyllic place for children to grow up! x Shara

It’s probably a good thing that you are ‘just being’ in the evenings, this’ll give you time to take in all the change going on around you. My folks showed me photos of Wellington (from their trip). It looks very creative with lots of sculptures. I wish you much happiness in your new home. x

    Congratulations on your move!
As much as it all seems unfamiliar and a bit strange right now, I remember that when I began reading your blog, you had just moved to another country altogether, and you managed those changes quite handily!
I’m sure that before you know it, you will again feel quite yourself again…
…and I think that your ‘quiet evenings’ will have a lot to do with your integration, so please trust this fallow period! Hugs-

Best wishes to you & your family for settling into your new home & city!
I bought a bag awhile back from your shop (bark cloth printed with pine tree foliage in blues, pink, & greens lined with pink/white gingham). I sure enjoy carrying my small knitting projects around in it! I am a sewer of bags myself, but it’s a treat to have one so nicely made from halfway around the world.
