Hello and happy new year!

Here are a few bits of our new house in the capital city. We are living in one of the inner-city suburbs, but we are lucky enough to have a big old house (I think almost 100 years old) with a flat garden out the back for the kids to play in. We've been here for 5 days or so, and are nearly settled in. Mind you, there are enough empty moving boxes to build a small town and the kids' beds haven't arrived yet, (they were sent to Auckland by mistake)  but they shouldn't be too far away. I have started to set up my work stuff in one corner of our big new bedroom and I must admit that it's taking me a while to feel inspired or get started on any projects. Once upon a time, I hated to go through an evening without doing a bit of embroidery or knitting, but these days I seem to quite enjoy just 'being' and doing nothing much of anything.

I think we'll all really enjoy our new life here but it will take a while before it feels like home. We miss our family and friends very much, and hope to go on holidays back in our home town as often as we can.

I'm really not sure what 2012 will bring for me, my creative work and this blog, but I will keep updating this space in the meantime and I want to thank you very much for reading and leaving those kind messages of support over the past month or so. I have lots to share with you- about the great old textiles I've found already, a couple of projects and some amazing mail too.

I hope this year brings much happiness for you and your family.

A house that’s been around for almost 10 decades should be celebrated each year – it’s rare to find houses like that. In spite of the fact that it is old, you still manage to make it look classy. Think positive this 2012. You never know, your house might last for another 100 years or more. 🙂

Whatever 2012 holds, I’m sure it will be full of new wonderful fabric designs for you. Anyway, what I like about old houses is their ambiance. Nothing beats that feeling. How’s it going so far in your new house? Since it’s an old new house, do you have any plans to renovate it?

Woah. Almost 100 years old! Classic! Take your time, Melissa. Don’t force yourself with the project. The perfect time will come. It would also help if you do the unpacking one at a time, a box per day. That should keep things moving. Good luck!

The plant art painted on the wall beside the windows surely looks gorgeous, girl. Who painted it? Also, I like the view seen from the outside of your windows. Looking at those plants can replenish one’s spirit.

It’s been 8 months since you posted this, so, how is it going now, Melissa? You’re right when you said it’ll take a while before truly feeling at home. I hope you enjoyed and appreciated the experience of adjusting to a new home. Best regards! =)

That place looks rather good considering that it is a 100 year old house. Houses before always gave much thought to the design, so much so that their windows, banisters, and even their stairs would have designs as well. I want a house like that, but with a Victorian era design. Congratulations on your new house, by the way!
