These handmade buttons by Sarah of Fulton and Co arrived in the letterbox over the weekend. They are made from pearly smooth ceramic, slightly earthy and delicate at the same time. I think they look beautiful on handmade garments- if I was more of a knitter, I would knit a stack of winter cardigans and adorn them with these buttons.

But being a very slow knitter, I sewed some buttons onto a cardigan for Keira. This is a pale blue cashmere garment that I sewed as a project for 'the book'. The project is for a recycled knit and uses fine cotton to make bias binding for the edges. It was a tad big last year, but should fit this coming winter.

o…o…o…o…o…o…o…o…o…o…o…o…o…o…o…o…o

Sarah also sent some of these beautiful little pearls for you, dear readers. A set of small, creamy grey buttons and a bigger set too.

Would you like to win them? (I'll post them anywhere in the world.) Just leave a comment below and tell me what you'd do with them, and I'll draw a winner in a couple of days.

I would love them and admire them and maybe use them to embellish something (I’m not must of a garment sewer or knitter). Or I might give them to my mum to use on one of her lovely knitted baby cardigans.

These are lovely Melissa. I would love to win them to pop onto a wee body suit I am knitting for our babe.
I have a button collection, but Nana’s is even bigger. I have a wee ritual now where I take my finished project to Nana’s and we sort through the buttons together looking for just the right ones. Nana used to do a lot of knitting and crochet, but really hasn’t been able to for a few years now. I think she enjoys the ritual too.

Oooh, I can’t resist cute buttons! I have a knitted cardigan underway that will need buttons soon – the pattern is called Cria and I’m using a lovely green hand-dyed yarn from Little Wool Co. Ceramic buttons sound really special.

Beautiful buttons! The big ones I would use for my handbag which I’m knitting now ( I will combine it with leather). The small ones I think I will use for a vintage cardigan I have to change all the buttons to. 🙂

I would use them to adorn some of my older winter accessories. I am trying to reuse and repurpose my wardrobe instead of spending money on new clothes. I have a gorgeous lacy white scarf that would get a whole new lease on life with these pretty buttons.

My grandmother, an avid seamstress, always had a button jar. To her they were a necessity, but through the eyes of a child as I was, they were treasures. Each with a story to be told, places traveled, people seen, and wonderful garments adorned, and if that wasn’t enough, the whimsical sound the jar would make each time you shook it sounded like gems dancing. I recently started crocheting, it would be an honor to add these beautiful buttons to my first scarf I’m making. Thank you!

Wow, gorgeous buttons! Such an unexpected detail but would be so lovely if added to a special piece of clothing, like you did. I’d probably replace the buttons on my favourite cozy sweater, and the rest I would give to my Mom who is a knitter. I’m sure she’s come up with something wonderful. 🙂

I’ve never heard of handmade buttons! Very impressive. I would probably just sit and stare at them, and try to figure out how they are made…and then I would use them on a soft, ivory head wrap that I’ve crocheted, but is still lacking a nice big button.
