Tansy 1

Tansy 2

In the spring I planted a small tansy plant in the garden, never realising how big it might grow. Now it's early autumn and the plant is taller than me and threatening to take over the flower bed. I really only planted it for embroidery purposes.

I've also been reading that dyeing with tansy can produce a beautiful earthy yellow, so I'll try that when more flower heads appear on the plant.

Imagine a garden planted specifically for embroidery and dyeing? I'm intrigued by this idea and am going to start doing some research. Have you planted anything in particular for these purposes?

Hope you've had a lovely weekend. We've had family staying, wood stacking, friends visiting, kids playing music and coffee brewing. Not bad at all.

Hi, Im going to be using vegetable dye ie cooked beetroot makes pinkish red dye…The tricky part has been finding white shelled hens eggs. They are mostly light brown here, so will let you know how this pre Easter activity goes!

I grew indigo and dyed with it this past summer. I also grew tansy. Looking forward to more this summer.

We dye with tansy (for Rosewood Wool) YOu can use the leaves and stems as well as the buttons. Its my favourite of the yellows we have achieved from NZ garden flowers

Your embroidery is lovely. I’d love to see what the colour would be if you had a go at dying. It was nice to read your next post too, that you can make nice things for family to wear. My husband wont let me crochet him a tie, I’ve asked 😉

no difference, it looks much better but also will be great if designed with plants base.
