making journal

Book giveaway
Hello! I hope you're having a nice weekend. Mine has been filled with cosy activities so far – a family movie night, coffee with friends, Fabricabrac and a day spent drinking tea and chatting by the fire with Constança. Couldn't ask for a nicer weekend, really!

I also have a giveaway, thanks to Helen Lehndorf, poet and author.

Write to the Centre is an inspiring book about keeping a journal and how this can enrich our creative lives. It's beautifully illustrated, thoughtful and encouraging and will have you buying a blank notebook, pen and fresh glue-stick immediately.

You can read more about this special book, along with a recent interview I did with Helen here.

Helen has kindly offered up a copy to send to one of my readers. I'll wrap it up with a few extra journal-related treats and post it to a randomly-selected winner anywhere in the world.

To enter, please leave a comment below, explaining whether you keep a journal/diary/scrapbook or not, and why.

What a fabulous book. I haven’t kept a journal since I had my son, and he’s in Grade One now! I used to write ‘morning pages’ (an idea from The Artist’s Way) first thing when I got up, but the extra moments in bed are so precious these days.
What a different life it was pre-kid: I work freelance, and would wake up whenever I was ready and write in complete silence.
I would love help to reframe the idea of keeping a journal so that I could embrace it as part of the life I have now.

I keep a journal that is a mixture of things, and have done so forever, it seems. I still have the first book given to me by my mom when I was a little girl–a diary with a tiny silver padlock, and purple lines on which to write. I recently re-found it and somehow still knew the combination to the lock.

Hi Melissa, thanks for the opportunity to enter this wonderful giveaway. I am an erratic journal keeper I must admit. I go through periods of being really good at writing in my journal & then long periods of no entries at all. I like to use my journal to keep a bit of a record of my creations & my makes. Also it is great for a garden record of plantings etc. Thanks again, kindest wishes, Julie

Your last post inspired me to journal and get these thoughts out. I did a bit of research and have started, but would love some more ideas.

I do have a diary, but I’ve never been very comfortable expanding beyond the written word. I’m always worried I’ll do it wrong!

Love writing, collage, drawing, a way to focus and control my thinking and to celebrate being alive. Also, one day when I’m famous…. As well, I love to dream of my diaries and journals being pored over by people in future studying my work.
