Red 1

Red 2

Red 3

When I was staying out at my parents' place last week, I found Mum's copy of this book- Simple Knits for Cherished Babies by Erika Knight. I remembered those golden months when I was pregnant for the first time, and knitted every single pattern in that book for Arlo, in cream merino, I think. (Yes, I had a fair bit of time on my hands.) I chose my favourite pattern from that book, the 'garter stitch wrap top' and knitted it up last week in soft grey merino yarn for my friend's new baby. I also bought Lola a little stripy red and cream top to go underneath it. I like red and grey together- hope she does too.

You can see many more interpretations of this pattern here on Ravelry.

Have a great weekend- see you on Monday.

I thought that wee top looked familiar. When I was pregnant with my boys I got that book out of the library. Never got around to making anything from it, though, just loved poring over the pages of beautiful baby knitting :o)

I like red and grey together too. The wrap sweater is such a great style for baby; the red ribbon is so cheerful (red is for good fortune, right?). I’ve knitted a couple of the short-sleeved sweater from that book (from Koigu) and the buttoned cardigan… that seems like such a long time ago, but it’s only been 4.5 years!

Just noticed on the right side that you are reading Pippi Longstocking 🙂 That was my favourite book when I was little. Made me smile on this cold and grey evening 🙂

Beautiful. I really like the texture of the garter stitch, and the seamless pattern. Gray and red together look great.

Hi, I follow you every day… but just sometime I leave here a comment!
Your last post let me think… I am waiting for my first baby.. I am 5 months pregnant and like you I love knitting for my baby… Well, I am not so good like you.. but slowly I finished some little projects.. As the first baby blanket or the first pair of baby shoes…
The book that you have presented should be very good but I am a knitting autodidact and also the translation from english to italian should be not so easy.. You have a lot of differents measures!!!
Anyway… compliments for your blog and for all you inspiring projects and sorry for my english!
Have you a nice week end…

It’s so lovely!! the grey and red looks so wonderful together. I think there are very few things that can’t be improved by a bit of ribbon!

I just found your blog after stumbling upon your shoulder bag tutorial from 2006. It’s been a rainy Saturday and I was able to complete it in just a few hours. Thanks for the wonderful pattern!
