A heavy rainstorm visited our part of the country on the weekend. I took the children to the beach and we watched the water moving towards us, then getting dragged back. Noone was there except us, a few keen surfers and some birds circling overhead.
Sorry about the shakiness of this videoclip- I wanted to record the greyness and the wind and the sea foam.
I love it when the weather is “bad” and we get the beach all to ourselves!

Gorgeous, I love watching kids faces when exploring.
The sea looks quite grey and unsettled, I could almost smell the salt air.

We had that last week in Auckland and it was amazing, we had a walk along the beach and watched the dogs chasing the seam foam, when we got home our faces were covered in salt and sand. It certainly makes you feel alive!

Thank you so much for posting this! I grew up a few doors from a lake you can’t usually see to the other side of, and then about a block away from the same lake (on the aforementioned other side) and it still pains me not to live a three minute walk from water doing this sort of thing. It’s so calming and inspiring and wonderful, especially on a rainy windy day like you’ve had.

I like grey beach days with a chill in the air. This is a good thing because it is what we see most often here in Northern CA. It’s especially grey and windy this very moment…

Oh how I miss that area and its perspective. My family camped every year for 6 weeks at Ruby Bay ( way back when I was small enough that I could be bathed in a bucket and lasting until my teens). My Grandad and I used to go gleaning for flotsam and jetsam after storms and I remember frequently finding dead washed up sea horses. There used to be lots of whale strandings too from memory. Near rabbit island I think. What a lovely part of the country you live in. Do people still go swimming in Aniseed valley? and you are so close to those talented jewellery folk Julie Vine and Isaac Ibbotson. too tempting.

Oh thank you for a moment at the beach! I’ve been dreaming of going to the ocean lately but it is a 4 hour drive so takes some planning. I think I’ll be watching this again before starting my day here!

it’s nice to have a glimpse of the sea here, even if it’s grey. i’ve been inland for ages. being at the beach quietens my heart and does wonders for me. so thank you for posting this up! 🙂

Tahuna beach so beautiful on a rainy, dark day. I’ve seen a few mushrooms around out our way. But the foragers seem to get there before me! Early bird catches the worm and all that, saw some on my morning walk today that where almost translucent pale, mauve and beautiful, I left them to themselves sparkling in the dew.
