Dressing 1

Dressing 2

Dressing 3

This is a dressing gown that I began making about a year and a half ago, but lost. It went missing during one of our house-moves around that time and I feared I had sent it to an op-shop in its ghostly, half-finished condition. But then I found it again the other day, and quickly finished it. And now I can lounge around in my dressing gown, knitting and drinking coffee. If only there weren't so many other things to do!

It's a kimono-style drapey dressing gown made from double-gauze cotton. Not the ideal gown for this time of year, I must admit, and I couldn't steel myself to try it on for the blog (sorry). Anyway, you don't want to see my pasty and blue-tinged skin right now- there must be a decent dusting of snow on our mountaintops today. I used a great vintage pattern from 1979, 'Style' 2656. The ladies on the pattern cover look rather glam, don't they? Even though they're wearing floor-length sleepwear. Oh, to be from the 1970's.

Oh, how I love double-gauze cotton!! It’s really expensive here, though, since it has to come from Japan, so I’ve never made large things from it…only baby blankets and the like.
Your robe will be perfect for ‘tween-season’ wear and especially during the summer when it will be cool and absorbent!

We still have a pretty good dusting of snow in our mountains and it’s supposed to be summer! Brrrr! Lovely robe, though. I’m still wearing my fleece one. I guess we aren’t getting summer this year.

A robe like that is something I definitely need!!! My Pyjamas are pretty sad and if anyone knocked at my frontdoor in the morning, they would not see a pretty sight – so I should get the sewing machine out this weekend – thanks for the inspiration 🙂

All you need now is a dressing table to sit at in your dressing gown. Maybe one of those kidney shaped ones from the 70’s, with a frilly trim. And a stool covered in fluffy fake fur fabric!
I was also reading that issue of World Sweet World today. Love that mag. So sad it has ended.

Just found your blog and I love your craftiness! This gown looks so comfortable! I could see myself sitting on a porch in the mountains of North Carolina (my home state) sipping coffee and reading a book! And of course wearing this robe.
I need to look out for vintage patterns!

No, you definitely wouldn’t want to be from the late 70’s – the 60’s would have been your time – believe me – from someone who was there!

Very elegant. There were some lovely patterns/designs in the 70’s.
I am going to my niece’s wedding in a couple of weeks, I did have “half an outfit” ready, then noticed in a couple of magazines several maxi dresses and had a sudden flash of inspiration – in the loft I should have one I last wore back in the late 70’s. Guess who is climbing the loft ladder tomorrow?
Crossing my fingers that, if I find it, it still fits.
