Pinks 2

Pinks 1

Pinks 3

It's so cold today, and raining on and off. Spring-like pink colours are very cheering though. Tom bought me the pink-tinged lilies on the weekend when they were tightly closed pods. Now they've opened and are filling the house with their scent.

I made the purse, along with some other pink things, as part of my shop update today. When I was looking through some old cards and fabrics I found a small vintage silk mat that had been embroidered in China. I think it was sent to me a few years ago by Caireen. It seemed too nice to be packed away so I sewed it into this little circular pouch- lined in cotton lawn. I think it would be nice for storing jewellery or other treasures. Asian embroidery always amazes me- I was talking to a Chinese woman at the craft fair a few weeks ago who told me her grandmother used to embroider like this to support her family. She would stitch leaves and roses and insects on clothing and tableware. It's such fine and delicate work.

I’m curious-how cold does it get in NZ in the wintertime? In Montana it can get to minus 30 or 40 Fahrenheit. Not always but the possibility is there.

I think those silk embroideries are really amazing. I can’t imagine making something so perfect and delicate.

    ooh- thats cold, marty!
it doesnt get that cold here. in nz, it really depends where you live. i live in the centre of the country, where its really quite temperate. our winters are cold though- mostly because our houses (especially the old ones) arent built for the cold- sometimes its warmer outside than in!

I remember buying similar silk in China in 1986, We did a short tour from Hong Kong on our honeymoon. Honestly it was just like the pages of those old “National Geographics” magazines come to life!. An amazing place and craft people

Pink is in the global air, it seems… I´m (untypically) very fond of pink at the moment, + everywhere I look I see pink – so this was a pleasure…

I still have a old chinese blouse upstairs…maybe I should cut in it and try to make something as beautiful as you’ve made.

The brooch is everso sweet? did you also make it? and pink has always been a favorite; not gaudy Barbie pink but faded ‘Germoline’ ointment pink. Does anyone out there identify with this ‘Germoline’ pink and if so do you remember the smell of it. Gorgeous; rather like your purse…
