This is the last week we will spend in our little town-house because on the weekend we are moving. Tom and I have bought our first home. It's been a long process, (searching and saving) but an interesting one and we are looking forward to having our own garden where we can grow things (flowers and fruit trees and vegetables…) and a little extra room for the children. And trees outside the windows. My favourite part.

Starting from this weekend, I will take a small holiday from my etsy shop, and so today I am having a sale in there. 25% off everything- (the prices have not been adjusted- I will send your refund through paypal.) The sale will last until Friday, then I will close up the shop. Thank you for your ongoing support!

Now I'd better get back to the dull task of packing and cleaning- and of course a little bit of looking through old house and garden magazines, too.

    i remember when we moved into our first home
    it felt so wonderful to be able to do what ever we wanted to do with it without asking for anyone’s permission.

    I just recently discovered your blog and I love it! I could be writing this post myself…my husband and I are also packing up our townhouse to move into our first house next month.     How exciting for you and your family. I’m slightly envious, having done the maths, just this weekend, and worked out that my husband and I are still about 5 years away from affording our first home. Never mind, that time will come soon enough.

We moved into our first home last year and we’re enjoying planting trees and making it our own. Our veggie garden is good fun, Poppy loves playing in it, and she devoured our small raspberry crop.

    Congratulations on your exciting news! It’s been lovely hearing about all of your travels and moves over the years, but I know it had to have been difficult for you.
    I remember breathing a deep sigh of relief from the bottom of my soul when we finally bought a house. It’s a lovely, safe feeling.
    I’ll pass on the best advice I ever received when I had bought my own house after my divorce and was feeling panicky about ‘getting everything done’ in it. “You have all the time you need!” Really. Take your time to make it beautiful and YOURS. (How could it be otherwise?) XXO-

    Hey snap! Us too! It’s really exciting and nerve wracking … I’m looking forward to planting fruit trees, getting chickens etc. But the house needs a lot of work to make it a cosy place, it’s a 1950s house with good bones but hasn’t been insulated, the fridge isn’t in the kitchen, etc. Please post pics of the new place as you set about making it a tiny happy haven. And congrats!

    Oh well done Melissa and Tom (excuse the familiarity but you share your life so warmly & generously I feel as though I must have met you!). I remember so well the sheer excitement and disbelief when I bought my first home. Nothing quite like your own territory on which to make your mark. And there’s also nothing quite like Roses’s Lime Marmalade on warm toast with butter 🙂 🙂 🙂 Make sure you pack a new jar very near the top of the first box on moving day.

    Happy dance, happy dance, happy dance!!! I remember when I moved into my first home – the first thing I did was hug the house!!! Mine, all mine. I’m only in my second house, but the feeling was the same because the location was so far from the first, and the surroundings were sooo different.
