Calendar 1

Calendar 3

Calendar 2

A couple of nights ago I made a new cover for our coffee plunger, (as well as one for a friend and one for the shop). The beloved coffee press is something I use every day- I made my first cover for it a few years ago now, and elastic was starting to get a bit tired. This time I used mismatched buttons and a couple of extra layers of wool fabric, and it's doing the job nicely on these cold mornings we've been having.

In a strange coincidence, the very next morning I received an interesting-looking box from a US publisher on the doorstep. Inside was this 2011 'Sewing Calendar', compiled by Megan Smith and published by Accord Publishing. My little tutorial for this coffee cosy, and one other pattern was published in the calendar but I'd forgotten all about it.

It's a boxed set featuring lots of different craft projects from around the internet- enough to last you an entire year.

They kindly sent me two copies, so I have one Sewing Calendar to give away here. I'm happy to send it anywhere in the world. If you'd like it, just leave a comment telling me something special you'd like to do next year. 2011 seems kind of far away, doesn't it? But I'm sure it will come around soon enough.

Next year I want to learn to make yellow things. Seriously! I want to learn to make pasta from scratch, bread, biscuits, pastry (my shortcrust is okay, but puff pastry and filo pastry are an elusive dream), souffles, custards and cakes. It just so happens that all of these things are yellow 🙂 And all of them are better hand-made than bought from a store.

Next year…. I would like to really organize my work room – not just straighten it up like I do from time to time when it becomes too unruly, but a system of organization. 😉
And I would like to be more diligent about keeping my journal, but hope to start doing that before 2011.

Next year I hope to open an Etsy shop of my own. Trying to sew more surplus when you work full time and are a single mom can be challenging. The fact that sewing is therapy for me, makes it a bit easier.

    Hello Tiny Happy,
What a lovely thought with the press cover and calendar. I’ve always wanted to make a cover for my husband’s press. Next year I have so many projects to do. We’re finishing our little island cottage and we plan to be done in a couple of months… covering pillows and making curtains with vintage sheets, embroidering duvets, new quilt for my bed, etc. Thank you so much for your inspiration!

The one thing I would like to try next year is make preserve out of my Chilean berries (somebody told me they saw them plant at a shop at they were called new zealand berries, hmm). Anyway, they are just delicious I have been propagating them for a while now hopefully will have enough to try preserving…

Daily suggestions via a sewing calendar is a wonderful idea!
This time next year I shall be booking my Wedding – so it will be all hands on deck as I intend to make as many things as possible in fabric (corsages, gift pouches, ‘Save The Date’ cards and my Wedding Flowers made out of ribbons)…..wont make the dress, will be entrusting a professional for that!!
