Crochet 3

Crochet 1

Crochet 2

So much rain! There's water pouring down the hill and flooding the streets.  It is a good day to be inside with the fire going, though. I spent a bit of time today making this cushion cover for a friend. The front is thick wool jersey fabric in a charcoal colour and the back is cotton lawn. I found the piece of crochet at the recycling centre and washed it till it was clean and cream again. Small projects like these are pretty satisfying, especially when I can showcase a little item from the past that had been neglected.

Also, the new Arcade Fire album arrived in the mail this week and it's so great- very Springsteen-esque (if that's a term?) and I love the lyrics and themes running through the songs, too. Is it just me, or is Canada a treasure-trove of good bands?

Wishing you a very happy weekend.

You are a good friend. How do you get your items such as this crochet piece white again? Any ideas beyond hot water and laundry soap?

hi denise- i’m sorry that i don’t know any good tricks! i usually soak items like this in warm water with a little washing powder added and scrub with soap if needed. also, after they’ve been through the washing machine, hanging them on the washing line in full sun for a couple of days always helps!

so pretty. since you first made some zip purses with the charcoal and crochet/lace pieces it has been on my mind to make some cushions for our house like yours. i have some jersey and a pretty crochet piece i found while straightening the linen closet today. also discovered some barkcloth in there there that i need to dream up something for.
that is neat that keira has the same doll. we received it as a gift from her aunt sue and she really bonded with the doll.
    enjoy your weekend.

Pretty pillow. And you can send some of that rain this way. It is so dry here in Massachusetts. Hoping for some rain this evening.

we’re crossing fingers here for no floods today in the bay of plenty… but it is lovely to be a family, together, inside, warm with a fire.

Hey Melissa, I found a thrifted red linen cushion for $4 and had the same idea, to sew on a doiley. So effective. Love all your designs. The dark cloth looks really good behind the stark white. Its always good here.

After reading this post, I mentioned to my husband about the new Arcade Fire coming out. Thanks for the reminder. He showed up at home last night with the album. I’ve only had one listen through, but I think I’m going to like it. My husband is a proud Texas man and he wanted me to mention that Win Butler and his brother are from the Houston, Texas area. So, Texas gets partial credit for the talent that is now in Canada. LOL

It’s raining lots here in Alaska these days, too. Just had to pipe in and show my Arcade Fire/Canadian artist love too! I also LOVE the themes. It’s their best yet, in my humble opinion 🙂 And ditto the above comment. Canada and Texas are definitely hot spot for great music these days. Love your blog!
