Violet 1

Violet 2

Tom's Mum brought me these tiny violets from her garden on the weekend. For something so small, the scent of a violet is amazing! I love them.

I’ve just been given some crystallised violets for cake decorating. They look really neat. My grandmother used to grow violets in her backyard, and now my mum has a small patch in her garden.

Thanks – I can imagine the smell just by looking at your photos. You’ll have to get some for your new garden.

I have a little vase of some in my lounge, the smell is devine. One of my best memories is picking violets under my nana’s kowhai tree. Beautiful watercolour too.

I am reminded that my maternal grandmother used to grow violets when I was a little girl. As we lived a long way from her and only saw her once a year she would pick a little posy for me and post it to me.

Violets have absolutely tanken over outside our kitchen door and paving and I love the smell at this time of year.

My grass is full of violets in the spring. They look much smaller than your blooms though. But their scent is very lovely.
    Like you little painting too!

Every time I visit my parents house it seems that Mum will place a vase of violets next to my bed for me to wake up next to. I have also discovered that what I thought were weeds through the winter in our courtyard are actually violets which are now in full bloom!

    hey angela,
no worries- freezer paper is sold by the metre at spotlight and other sewing/quilting stores i think here in n.z. you might have to ask for it- sometimes they keep it in a roll behind the counter. it looks like thickish greaseproof paper but then it has a shiny layer on the back. good luck!
