Hydrangea 1

Hydrangea 3

Hydrangea 2

I found the picture of the lovely woman surrounded by flowers in a vintage gardening book: the 1958 edition of Yates Garden Guide. It's a great book, filled with lots of helpful information and some pretty interesting photos of people holding vegetables and flowers. I fell in love with that picture, and the way the lady is just plonked there amongst all the hydrangeas, as if she's part of an interesting wedding decoration.

I'm planning to plant a few of these hydrangeas myself in a shady spot in our garden. But it needs a bit of tidying up and digging over first. Until then though, I did some hand-sewing and made these hydrangea-inspired hairbands. The petals are wool felt sewn to black velvet ribbon.

I have always loved hydrangeas. I wish the climate was mild enough here to grow them. I think we need to be one zone warmer.

I have only just started appreciating hydrangeas – I wonder if it’s an age thing…for me anyhow.
    I love the hairbands.

I love how they are not too big… it’s something you could wear everyday.

This reminds me, I need to find my grey hydrangea headband (you made) and send you a pic. My daughter threw it in hot bath water (giving the flowers a drink, she said…grrr!), and the flowers ended up all curled up, but it actually looks really lovely. More 3D than your original intent, but very pretty nonetheless. I get compliments every time I wear it. Thanks again for a piece I treasure.

Love the Hydrangeas but for some reason they don’t like our garden.
Where do you buy wool felt? I’ve been using acrylic and acrylic/wool mix for my projects but it lacks the body of wool felt.
