Thank you for your comments on my last post- you are the best.

Thanks to your support of my fundraising efforts on Wednesday, I was able to make a good donation to the earthquake relief fund. And thank you, too, for your messages of sympathy and support. They're much appreciated.

If there's anything good to come of the disaster that happened here on Tuesday, it must surely be a realisation that every day is precious, and we must make each day our very best day. Letting go of things that don't matter, being as kind and generous as we can, loving all of those around us.

Thank you again, and I'll be back here on Monday.

Well said. My thoughts are with all those facing uncertainty right now in NZ and around the world.

I couldn’t agree more, I’ve been hugging my children just a wee bit tighter each night and counting my blessings. Not to mention finally starting to get a family survival pack organised, my heart goes out to Christchurch. Have a happy a safe weekend xxx

Just spent a couple hours re-reading my emails home in 2005 when I travelled around NZ for four months. So many good memories, including from lovely Christchurch, in such a wonderful country. I’m originally from the West Coast of B.C., where they’re waiting for “the big one” to hit, so I’m familiar with the fear that comes with earthquakes. My heart goes out to Christchurch residents and those who care for them. I fervently hope those affected can heal, physically and spiritually.

I love your swallow – it reminds me of a bluebird of happiness necklace that my grandma gave me when I was little.

Good on you for making such a GENEROUS donation . . . . I was tempted to get the “Wild Flower” Cosmetic Case (not that I need one, becos I got one last time) but als when I went back, it was gone, SOLD . . . so that teaches me hey! (smiling)! Thoughts with those still in ChCh doing the rescue and clean-up ~ they are amazing people!

Right now, you can’t move in Wellington for sausage sizzles, cake stalls, shops donating their takings to the quake etc. And all the people in Chch going hard out helping others. Really is awesome, in the true sense of the word …

Wow ange! that is so great to hear, go Welly. That truly is awesome. I feel very very lucky to have my family safe and sound in Chch. But they are having a trying time holding other families together. I agree with the above commenters, good on you Melissa for your contribution, it is wonderful what you have done. I know you will think it is a little sacrifice, but the drops all count. And yes it does make you want to give more of yourself to those loved ones near you.

I agree with you Melissa. It’s also heartening how many other nations have sent help in the form of rescue teams etc. This spirit of cooperation is fantastic.
My friends are ok, but can’t believe the mess in many of the suburbs.
    Stay strong everyone.
