pinboards

I love a good old-fashioned pinboard, with bits and pieces of this and that, all collected and held for future reference. But I'm bad at organising the one in my workroom. It's threatening to fall off the wall, actually, with everything I've tacked to it. Shown above is my latest, clean wall with just a few things to look at: some watercolour playings I did, as well as postcards and magazine cuttings too lovely to go into the recycling bin.

Recently I discovered Pinterest, which is an online tool for making and sharing such pinboards. I started playing around with my account last night and discovered that it can rather time-consuming, in a good way (though, that could be a reflection of my self-discipline more than anything.) I made three themed 'boards' which I'll use to file away lovely things I find on my internet travels. The next challenge is not to get too overwhelmed by all the images- sometimes i find myself feeling paralysed by all the goodness out there on internet. I know there are many other tools like this in use (tumblr, delicious, etc) but the simplicity of this one is especially appealing to me.

The problem with my good old-fashioned pinboard is my problem with removing items. Pinterest is very helpful. I’m happy to see you are creating some boards. I know what you mean about all of the goodness out there. I try to make my visits to Pinterest brief. I’ve never tried any of the similar tools and now I’m hooked on Pinterest. It works really well, for me. Enjoy!

I’ve recently cut out a lot of my google reader list because of a serious imagery overload so I totally know where you are coming from.
Having said that, I’m going to check out pinterest 🙂 My real pin board is rarely updated and yesterday feel down behind my worktable where I think it’ll probably stay LOL

I have the same thing with pinboards, right now one of our kitchen walls is acting as one. Mine tend to stay the same for months, though, except for some additions of course. Yours look lovely! I like the way the collection seems to be put together totally at random, although these things never actually are.
So many people have been talking about Pinterest I guess I’ll have to try it. But I’ll resist the urge as long as I can, as I have no self-discipline when it comes to these things…

You put it so beautifully when you say “paralysing” – so much greatness, too many wonderful blogs… I like that I can keep track of all that wonderousness through Pinterest. I showed my non-texting, reluctant-facebooker technophobic husband Pinterest and even he was impressed. But there is nothing like a good old fashioned pin board, crammed with tickets, swatches, pages torn from magazines, sketches etc… it’s who you are.

I could never let go of the “real thing” – the paper, fabric, and other scraps of life I happen upon and store away. But, I can see the value of Pinterest. One can save an image without having to bookmark a whole site (which is what I do too much of!) Also, I’m beginning to see the value in the digital world in terms of being gentler on the environment. Digital photos, movies, music, images, and the like negate the need for packaging and products that use natural resources. But yes, making sure I don’t get swallowed up in the void of loveliness on line is a real issue!

Ohmigoodness, that could become addicting! And I’m trying to cut back on my computer usage! I, too, have a bulletin board, but it’s more functional than anything (library receipts, coupons, recipes, etc.).

i just found a corkboard at the op shop…hoorah! today’s mama indulgence is putting it up above my crafting table and unveiling my inspiration board…simple pleasures! I have to admit to being scared of pinterest though…i feel stretched for time already and i KNOW i’ll love it, sigh. High class problems..

I haven’t used Pinterest before – I’ll make sure to check it out. A good old fashioned pinboard has to be the way forward though for me. Displaying bits and bobs from ages ago and recent discoveries too.
