Anemones 1

Anemones 2

Anemones 3

I found this Japanese anemone while out walking: there are a few anemone-clumps I know of around town. They inspired some new illustrated coffee cups: these are vintage cream ceramic with hand-drawn anemones clustered near the handles on each one. I added them to my shop update today.

I think I need to plant some anemones in my own garden- do you think they're difficult to grow? I will have to look into it.

Have you heard the latest PJ Harvey album, Let England Shake? Each song is written around the theme of war, and the music is so beautiful. I recommend it highly, if you're looking out for new music.

I adore your music selections, Melissa! Can’t wait to check that out. Also, I almost always wind up reading your stuff in my google reader and thus haven’t seen your birdie header. . . I LOVE it! Hugs to the kids and your Tom. xoxo

difficult to grow? they grow like weeds πŸ™‚
which can look lovely in a wild rambly garden, but nigh impossible to get rid of if you change your mind.
I quite like them though…especially on your dreamy mugs.

The new PJ is amazing, it is music love all over again.
I have been advised against anenome’s in the garden by landscaping husband as you can’t get rid of them once they are there.
But if that doesn’t bother you go for it πŸ™‚

I put some bulbs in last autumn and they grew just fine, so they should work just as well at your place. But then I love flowers that grow like weeds, it means I don’t have to do anything!

Lovely cups indeed. I spotted anemones like this at the botanic gardens last week, but had no clue as to what they were called. I’ll be keeping my eye out while seed shopping now. πŸ™‚

Anemones are beautiful – I have some pale blue wood anemones that have just come through for the spring in my garden.

Oh. Now I have an urge to start a collection. Those would go beautifully with the tansy cup.
I think Japanese anemones are fairly easy. They quite like well-drained soil that’s slightly alkaline.

Have you seen the pink anemones as well? I love their low leaves, soaring flowerheads and round centres left after the petals drop. Mine are happy with dappled shade and a fair amount of neglect.

I love their other name: Japanese Windflowers and yes they are some of my favourites. I grow pink windflowers in semi-shade and they do a lot of fending for themselves. Will try and photograph them. xx
    ps Love PJ too!

Many people love tending to their garden and enjoy making it a place of tranquility and natural beauty. However once the winter is over people start to think about giving their garden a facelift in preparation for the lighter and hopefully warmer summer evenings. It’s easy to change the look of your garden with a few simple changes or with a complete overhaul.
