Spice 1

Spice 3
I've been a good girl, working hard today which I must admit hasn't happened for a few weeks. I feel as though I have been rather distracted by other things, lately. A new shipment of my fabrics arrived so I've been cutting them into pieces and sending things off.

And I was very happy to have three reasons to bake today. The kids had a cake stall at school, there's a new family just moved in next door, and I'm going to see my grandmother and I like to bring her something sweet now and then. I made ginger crunch, which is a classic NZ slice that you often see in cafes and tearooms around here. Except that my version isn't crunchy at all for some reason, but more like a soft and spicy shortcake. I used a recipe pretty similar to this one. Whilst making my second batch I ran out of ginger, so used an assortment of other spices I could find, like allspice, nutmeg and cardamom. Not too bad at all.

I hope you're doing well and enjoying your Thursday.

Oh, how smart to cut up the squares and put them in a tin! I always end up leaving them in the pan with foil on top, not at all decorative and far too defeatist (as in, I will be eating the lot before bedtime, why bother?) Must try that trick even if I’m not baking for delivery purposes :^)

    looks delicious.
i was wondering if you considered silkscreening fabric before you went with spoonflower? i am going to attempt to silkscreen my own fabric in the future (building the frames and such this summer break) but worry that i won’t have enough space or time. i know you like to do most things yourself so i was just curious about this and how spoonflower is working for you. thanks, m!

I totally understand you when you say that you’ve been rather distracted by other things lately & didn’t feel like being efficient. I’m going through that phase too.
Those slices look totally delicious, crunchy or not !! Thanks for sharing the link to the recipe, I’ll check that. Have a great end of your week, my friend

hi tiffany, yes i had considered screenprinting before going with spoonflower, but to be honest i gave up on all the screen-making, inks, chemicals, big space, etc in favour of spoonflower, thinking that it would be simpler and more professional-looking, despite the extra cost. i was also worried about creating fabric with a smooth repeat- i just wasnt sure how that work with my own handmade screens. ive been really happy with the process + service at SF. but i also love the look of handprinted fabrics. wishing you all the best! -melissa.

The fabrics are so pretty! I love the dark background floral.
I’ve been wanting to try more than the sample I tried at Spoonflower but I wasn’t crazy about the fabric on my sample. Do you have a favourite fabric from Spoonflower?

Yum, looks delicious. Nearly time for morning tea here at Wellington Library. Have you ever tried this http://www.foodlovers.co.nz/recipes/takaka-oaty-ginger-crunch.html Its from The Wholemeal Cafe in Takaka, I like to think it’s healthy cause it has oats in it but with all the sugar and butter, I don’t think so 🙂
