Good afternoon. It's been a very long week here, but this afternoon the sun is shining through the living room window and all is okay with the world. My friend S brought this little jug of waxy-yellow wintersweet branches, aren't they delicate? Their scent is pretty divine, too.

I'm feeling inspired by this beautiful painting I found on Pinterest- it's by Charles Rennie Mackintosh.

And thank you to the beautiful Liivia for this post on her blog.

Hope you are well and the sun is finding her way through your window-panes today.

    hi melissa,
you might be interested in reading about lady cranston’s tea room if you haven’t already. if i recall, it’s a bit fussy — but very beautiful and every single detail designed by mackintosh.

I love wintersweet, we used to have a tree growing up in Palmerston North, but I haven’t seen or smelt it for years. Better move south.

Another person who loves the scent of that plant. And thank you, I had no idea of what it was called. Our neighbour has one in his garden and the scent when walking down our drive is heavenly.

Wintersweet always feels like a bit of magic to me. Beautiful colour, shape, the most wonderful scent – it flowers around January/February where I am, and even though the winter is really only just getting going then, it always feels like a bit of reprieve.
    Lovely stitching as well!

This is not immediately related to your post, but…
do you know what kind of technique the rag rug under the lemons is made with? Did you make it? It’s lovely.
