The HANDMADE symposium is happening this weekend in Wellington, so I've been getting organised for that over the last few days. I'm teaching a few classes, and (while I'm actually quite nervous about the teaching) I'm looking forward to meeting lots of crafty people and soaking all the handmade goodness and Wellington atmosphere. Aren't those spools of thread lovely? They were made by my friend K and just looking at them makes me want to get out my needles and linen. I'll be taking some of them with me on the weekend for use in my class. I had to tidy up my other thread box- it looked as though a small child or dog had been into it. But it was just me who had tangled everything up.

My heart nearly stopped when I saw all those wonderful threads, and then….the little needle cases…squee!!! I love the colors, textures, everything! Wouldn’t it be fantastic if I could live in a little shop that carried such lovely items? Off to dream…cheers!

Are those threads just cotton? They’re gorgeous. I was once given a huge bag full of tangled embroidery floss. When I actually got it all sorted, there were about 25-30 untouched skeins hidden in the mess.

thanks, jody! i find my linen in all different places… sometimes in secondhand/antique shops (they dont make it like they used to..) but most often i find linen clothing that i cut up for my embroidery work.

I loved your classes Melissa. You are a sweet genuine woman with loads of heart and talent. Feel confident about ur ability to teach. It’s who you are that makes what you create and teach pure pleasure. I’m so thankful I got to meet you finally. I was a bit star struck after having followed your blog for years. A bit embarassing. I think you’re a gift to New Zealand’s crafting community. We all couldn’t stop singing your praises. Hugs. Looking forward to our paths crossing again. (ahem, Asia Gallery). x

thank you rachelle for thse kind words, and for joining in on my classes! it was lovely to meet you finally and i got really inspired by your free-form cross stitches, my biggest regret about the weekend being that i forgot my camera to capture what you and all the other students had made! im excited to go to asia gallery hopefully with you sometime soon. x
