I carved these very tiny and simple stamps the other day, while the children were having their music lessons. I used regular rubber erasers cut in half, and the finest lino-cutting tool I could find in my craft cupboard. (I've made them in the past too- here and here.) The main reason for making them so small was because I wanted to try stamping in white ink, and I only had a miniature inkpad. Anyway, a fun diversion nevertheless and I love the way the white ink looks on coloured paper (that fabulous vintage scrap-book was a gift from Louana) and of course, brown paper, for wrapping gifts.

    Oh, these look amazing! I’ve never tried lino-cuts although I have a friend who does them. I always wonder if I’d have the patience 🙂 they look so pretty in the white!~

    What I love most is the wee beauty of the images you’ve made. What I love second best is the white on the kraft paper. My new love is a white gel pen to write on coloured card stock. Now I have to track down a white inkpad too…

    I’m not the handiest lino cutter , since I always forget I’m supposed to be working in reverse .
    But I saw a beautiful stamp in a craft shop recently … a little dandelion parachute … and now see , thanks to you , how perfect it would be in white ! Brilliant !!

    The white stamping looks almost like gentle first snow. I like your them.
    Your jasmine looks pretty. Wishing it grew here too. Though it does, on my windowsill. A small plant in a pot, it is making wildly new leaves and funny long branches like fingers. It was flowering during winter, the coldest of weeks. A tag on it said “Water plentifully and you get delighted”. I did, both.

    The tinyness of the stamps is cute, but the size of a stamp isnt’ dictated by the ink pad. The pad of the ink pad is raised, so you can ink any size stamp with it, even an enormous stamp…

    Great idea to use erasers. I’ve been wanting to make my own stamps but didn’t know what I should use. Can you recommend a brand? Some are quite crumbly.
    I’ve just found your website and am enjoying it.

    hi sarah jane,
    thanks for your comment. ive enjoyed reading your poetry. for the erasers, i use any, really, i think faber castell brand is quite good and not crumbly if you choose the plastic variety, rather than rubber. you can play around with a few different kinds and see what you like working with. have fun!
