We had a really lovely break away- very rural and quiet. The children played all day long with their friends, while the parents drank coffee and sat by the fire. We even drove through a night-time snowstorm (very exciting, as snow is very rare in these parts), went looking for penguins, and went running over sand dunes. The perfect winter break.

I got some good work in on my cross-stitch 'sampler' that I reserve strictly for holidays and very much enjoyed the internet break.

I just wanted to write that I'm absolutely devastated by the news of the massacre in Norway. Oslo and its surrounds have such a big place in my heart and the Norwegian people even more so. It's completely shocking and still unbelievable to me that such needless killings took place and I'm sending all my love there.

You can see some beautiful tributes here.

What an amazingly beautiful place to get way from it all. These are the best kind of breaks. Yes, it is heartbreaking what has happened in Norway xo

The thing that struck me about the atrocity in Norway is the reaction of the Norwegian people.
I read in the paper a quote from a survivor from the camp who said something along the lines of ‘We’ve seen how much hate there was behind this act, now let’s show them how much love we have to counter it’ I can’t remember the exact quote, but it was something like that.
I’m from America, and when that kind of thing happens here I can assure you that there is no talk of love.
We could certainly learn a lot from the Norwegians.

I too feel so much for the Norwegian people. I cannot even comprehend such horror.

Norway has a special place in my heart too. I feel so distraught for the parents and the children who survived and have to carry that horror forever more. Monsters are everywhere, semi-automatic guns should NOT be.
ps. amazingly beautiful spot you have there to escape to.

It’s hard to comprehend the darkness of events like that in Oslo. That said your winter break looks most delightful. xolj

what a beautiful spot to escape to. The small people in our house have been hoping it will snow here in Auckland, so lucky you to have some snow to see. I really feel for the people of Norway, it’s hard to imagine such a terrible thing happening by one to affect so many xx

Your get away looks wonderful! I’m so glad you were able to enjoy some snow. Right now, after a couple weeks above 100 F., I think I would even be glad for some snow. 😉
What happened in Norway is horrible. I can’t imagine how the members of their families are feeling right now.

And thoughts with the people of Oslo and Norway . . . BEYOND words but hope the families and friends of loved ones get all the support they need through this time and into the future.

so glad you had a nice time to relax. i love your little sampler.
i sit here shaking my head trying to understand how and why a person could go and take so many innocent lives. if he was that angry why not just take his own and spare the rest of us the nightmares. when will we ever learn from the past mistakes and needless deaths of history. hopefully everyone can learn from Norway’s example as to how to work through the aftermath by NOT seeking revenge on the person who committed the crime or another country for giving the man the hate and any ideas to commit the crime. May true healing come for Norway.

Glad you had a nice break, it is important to do that.
Though I’ve never been there, I share your grief over the tragedy in Norway – needless indeed 😦
