I've always loved the look of hand-printed linen, and it occured to me the other day that I could use my own hand-carved stamps on fabric. Not sure why it took me so long to figure that out. 

I used some of the simple small stamps that I made a while ago, and carved a new swallow/bird stamp so I could make bird + branch fabric. I do quite like the simple, understated look of block stamps. I'm thinking the possibilites are endless here… stamping clothes, bags, pillowcases, tea-towels… hmm. Better get back to work.

    thanks kerri, yes i found all my supplies here (woodcutting tools + rubber stamps) although i think you can get better, more-specific rubber stamp carving tools from the States. try this link for more info- http://blogdelanine.blogspot.com/search/label/handcarvedstampstutorial

    Wonderful! And the ink doesn’t run or wash off when the fabric is washed?
    I love the designs you chose, the branch and the bird. Reminds me of the peace dove.

    I love the look of the black against the neutral. my son did his own stamp experimenting at the weekend, secretly stamping pirate ships over his t-shirt when he’d finished decorating wrap for a friend’s present…

    beautiful! Have you tried any white on fabric? I think that would look lovely on linen. I tried finding a versacraft fabric pad at Spotlight but they didn’t have any. Any local suggestions?

    thanks! the ink is pretty easy to use- you just need to heat-set it after it dries (e.g. by ironing) and then it washes well.

    hey louana, i’ve not found it at spotlight either, maybe some readers might have a local suggestion for the ink pads? i’ve noticed they can be ordered through nz stamping sites (such as http://www.artstamps.co.nz/ and others) but also i’ve found them on etsy. 🙂
