Pansies 1

Pansies 2

These little pansy or viola flowers are popping up in the garden this week, showing their cheerful faces and not seeming to mind the spring rain. I'm starting to feel better after nearly a week with the 'flu, which I don't recommend to anyone. Seriously. But something that did help was sitting very still, calmly working some free-form wool embroidery.

If you're in the South Island of NZ, you might like to check out this fantastic project, NZ on Screen. My friend Anna, in conjunction with the Real NZ Festival, is taking a souped-up caravan around the country, parking it in small towns and showing a selection of NZ feature film, short film and television. You can click here to see the South Island schedule. I'm looking forward to checking it out this weekend.

pansies and violas are such a cheerful sight, I like dipping them in lightly beaten egg white and rolling them in sugar to bring cheer to a cake!

    Hi Melissa,
First, a little story here…I bought a NZ House&Garden Magazine, from May2008 at a Thrift shop here, in Katikati with the last $0.40c I had in my wallet; saw your article (how fun!) because I’m just starting myself with a friend a little business myself with skandinavian baby boots! I grew up in a Skandinavian Village (up in the Mountains) in Brazil (believe or not), got married with a Skandinavian guy and lived in Canada for 15 years. We decided to live in a rural place, with nice weather and here we are, in New Zealand!!!
Hope we can chat more!!! Your blog is really inspiring and you have a lovely store as well 🙂
Let you know when the boots are ready!
    Hope to hear from you!
    Cheers, Li 🙂

Wow. Melissa, u r really industrious. If it were me, I would be huddled up in bed, with a gd novel, & a huge mug of lemon camomile to soothe the system. Lovely embroidery…..Do get well soon! ;o)
