It's misty and rainy here today- it was all weekend, too. It seemed the right time to crack open my new ceramic paints and work on this pair of coffee cups, spurred on by the forget-me-not flowers gathering along the edges of our garden. I've always loved those little blue flowers- they're to be found almost everywhere, but they're still seem delicate and special. I found a pinky-purple version of the plant at the top of a hill a couple of weeks ago, and sneakily took a cutting for our garden. It seems to be doing well, but the flowers almost instantly changed colour, back to blue.

How funny! I wonder if forget-me-nots react to the acidity (or aluminium content) of the soil, like hydrangeas do. At least you can paint or embroider them pinky-purple if you want to. 🙂
I don’t think I’ve commented before but I love your photos and writing. Seeing the bits of beauty you create is always happy and inspiring for me. Thank you!

Forget-me-nots will be rampaging through your garden in no time! They are my favourite garden volunteers. Are you eyeing them up as prospective embroidery inspiration too, I wonder?

Your mugs are so pretty. I wonder why the forget-me-nots decided to change their color. Intriguing.

these are lovely. forget-me-nots are one of the few flowering plants in our garden to remain uneaten by deer so their joyful blueness and delicacy is even more prized! back in the spring, inspired by you, I actually embroidered a little pin with forget-me-nots to keep me going until the season comes again:)

Very, very pretty! Perhaps it is the PH like Pneu suggested or maybe the new flowers are pink & then become blue as they age (like pulmonaria)

I’m pretty certain forget-me-nots are among the group of flowers that change colour after pollination. But pinkish-purple or blue they are so pretty. As are your coffee cups 😀

Such pretty mugs! I have never thought of painting on mugs before but you have inspired me to give it ago.
We have had some really hot weather here in England the last couple of days but autumn is definitely round the corner now as the leaves are starting to fall. It is lovely to see your photographs of spring in New Zealand… forget-me-nots are one of my favourite flowers. Thank you for sharing!

(Dear me. My comment seems to have been mysteriously gobbled up. Perhaps that it is near to midnight, I sleepily pressed wrong key. Nonetheless, I garbled something along the lines of how very sweet your ceramic paintings looked… and something about having always loved the name and the flower, forget-me-not.)

Forget-me-nots last for ages as cut flowers, too. I always imagined they would be too fragile to last more than a day, but recently put some in a vase and they lasted about two weeks! xx Helen

The mugs are just as delicate and pretty as the flowers. . When I was a young girl, I remember my Mom letting me plant forget-me-not flower seeds. I have loved them since then.

Your cups are so pretty. Forget-me-nots inspired me to knit a cardigan for my toddler daughter a couple of months ago. They really are so sweet and pure.
I think your blog is charming both in written style and visual content.
