Wednesday the 22nd. It's raining a lot today, and windy too. I've made some cushion covers and other assorted things to update my etsy shop for the week. I woke up early this morning, with Tom who had to leave town for work, and made these cheese scones for school lunches. Simple and old-fashioned, using this recipe. Scones are so nostalgic and comforting, don't you think?

So today is the first anniversary of the second earthquake in Christchurch last year and I've been listening to the stories about it on the radio as I work. It's still all pretty raw. Apparently people have been floating flowers down the Avon river today. Hope you're doing well, dear blog-readers.

Beautiful cushions… & yes a big day to remember, have been reading some ChCh blogs today & everyone is really feeling it. There are flowers in road cones too.

Those cushions are gorgeous Melissa. Is it awfully cheeky to ask where the fabric is from?

thanks jessicah, it’s not cheeky at all! the heart-shaped leaf fabric was from norway- ikea, i think!
the peony fabric was from a furnishings store in nelson- i think it’s from the uk but i don’t know the designer name.
and the other is my ‘heidi’ fabric.
    have a good weekend!

I haven’t made scones in a really long time. I made biscuits last weekend, and was going to make them again this weekend – maybe scones would be a good option instead… lovely pillows.

I visited Christchurch in 1998. I loved the city, I have good memories of my time there. I still can’t believe what happened, and have great admiration for the residents going through the rebuilding.
I like the leaf shapes on the bottom cushion, they remind me of a design I did way back in school for the Graphics section of my Art exam. And I have a friend calling tomorrow afternoon who doesn’t eat cake or sweet biscuits … thank you, now I know what to serve her!
