Happy Mother's Day for yesterday, if you observed it. It's pretty nice, I think, to have a day set aside for acknowledging everyone who looks after others, even if it's not just 'mothers'. I was given this stem of cream orchids from my family- don't you just love their waxy vanilla petals, speckled with pink?

I did, quite a lot, so I painted this portrait of them.

Happy new week!

    Hi Melissa,
I was just reading http://stitchbird.blogspot.co.nz/ and her latest post was for her new fabric shop and needing some part time help.
Not sure if you were available, but it would be close to home.
    cheers

I love your orchids but love more your portrait of them. Mother’s Day was a little while back here in the UK but it’s one of my favourite days for the sheer pleasure my son takes in it 🙂

    Hi Melissa,
such beautiful flowers – I’ll have to let my family in on that secret for next year.
I always like looking at what you’re reading and listening to, and thought I’d let you know about a book I just finished reading. The Sense of an Ending, by Julian Barnes. Won the Mann Booker Prize last year. I’m half thinking you may have mentioned it before but I just found it so unusual and so catching that I thought I’d mention it. A wonderful study of memory and how we create our images of self and others over time.
Thanks again for your lovely blog!
