I found a handful of gingko leaves on the road outside our house last week. They were covered in road dust and marked from gravel and feet but I took them in anyway. I've not seen a gingko tree anywhere close by so maybe they were blown along from another part of town. In any case, they made a good sketching and stitching subject. I'd like to embroider more leaves, so I might do that this weekend.

I hope you have a relaxing one. Here are two cover songs for you- one is a folksy, earthy version of a Kate Bush song, and the other is a reggae cover of Karma Police. Interesting new discoveries of mine! See you next week, friends.

We found out something about ginkgo trees that we didn’t know about. The produce really smelly fruit. We sat under a ginkgo tree and discovered this (after blaming Oscar for the bad smell)….such beautiful bark and leaves, but no so much about the fruit! Have a great weekend Melissa ~ the embroidery is gorgeous. Jx

I think this has to be my all time favourite of your botanical embroideries both the sketches and the finished product.

there is an amazing gingko outside out playgroup – it’s created a stunning yellow carpet at the moment! I think I read that the male gingko trees bear smelly fruit? Not all gingko trees are smelly apparently. Beautiful embroideries as always. Happy weekend!

I’m fascinated by gingko – the (beautiful) shapes of its leaves haven’t changed in around 60 million years – I have a fossil to prove it! Also the yellow the leaves in the autumn is almost neon. What a tree. YOur gingko embroidery is perfect.

The gingko trees in our neighbourhood are completely yellow, so I was surprised to see your green leaves. There is an enormous gingko we walk past on the way to school and its yellow leaves are blown far and wide. Very beautiful, thanks for sharing.

Is it the girl ginkos or the boy ginkos that are so stinky? Either way, it’s a thing I love about ginkos: one gender of trees smells super awful!
I love your interpretation of the leaves.

i’ve always loved ginkgo trees since I studied with one at my university… seems so long ago:) Yesterday, I was shopping for home school supplies at the thrift and found so many lovely fabrics. I thought of you when I found a gorgeous swath of teal velveteen! I’m crazy excited about the possibilities! Thank you so much for your inspirations. My daughter is almost six and she stitches alongside me… I have been wondering what to give her for patterns. She has followed my drawing of a heart on fabric. This is a sweet gift that you have given us because it is certainly an inspiration from you. And I look forward to drawing leaves or seeing what she might like. And stitching my own leaves and branches. xo
