Watering our little vegetable beds this morning, I realised they mainly consist of herbs. Good old herbs, they can always be relied upon to produce something. Unlike my beetroot (lots of leaves, pencil-width roots), carrots, (ditto) or lettuces (withered while we were on holiday.)

In the herbal department we have curled and flat parsley, oregano and marjoram, thyme and mint. I've started tying together bunches of leaves to dry for later. Bouquet garni, I believe.

I managed to use a sprig of herbs in these pinwheel scones today. The kids love to eat them for lunch. I used this recipe, and spread the uncooked dough with tomato pasta sauce, grated cheese, sliced olives and chopped herbs before rolling and baking- pizza-style.

Yum! Have you ever tried these pinwheels with a mixture of mashed potato, cheese and onion (or bacon)? They are always a hit in our house!
I like the reliability of herb crops too 🙂

My garden sounds like it is in a similar state, forecast for rain here tomorrow – might be a good day to try out your pinwheel scone recipe – looks yum.

Those pinwheel scones look delicious! I’m planning to start growing herbs in the garden this year- we already have a rosemary tree but it’s looking a little sorry for itself as we tend to use up every leaf going in our Sunday roasts- oops!

Mmmmm, they look rather tasty – thank you for the recipe! I do love your blog, very inspirational, often breeze by! I managed to plant 3 different mints, some parsley and a rosemary last year, small child preventing anything more ambitious. Hoping to start using the veg beds again this year, just carrots, beetroot, peas and such like, and not get too annoyed when the football lands on target or there’s been a bit of ‘over-weeding’ or I find the soil being used for inventive construction …

Melissa – I have snuck some holiday time for sewing, inspired by many years of following your blog…and simple ideas, where no end result is “wrong” as such (well, very few!). I had the courage to make without expecting perfection. And slowly my skills have built with my confidence and trial and error – and yesterday I hung 2 pairs of curtains with homemade snug fleece lining, a breeze after making a 3x2m ROMAN BLIND _ interlined with snuggy fleece – it feels like a blanket yum! It’s not all crisp and perfect like the pictures – but its perfect for our home. Thankyou! I have preordered your book, v exciting, with a mind to passing it on to my neice… Oops said more than I meant, as usual! Mary
