I don't often go opshopping these days, but I still love finding useful and beautiful things to buy second-hand when I get the chance. Here are three recent finds that I bought with 'making things' in mind.

– a beautiful old cake plate. I have a couple of pudding bowls in this same anemone-type pattern, so I was very pleased to find this matching cake plate. It's marked 'Lord Nelson Pottery'.

– a length of very beautiful oatmeal linen. I have embroidery plans lined up for this. (I bought this online, not from a second-hand shop.)

– a crazy old book: 'A Handbook of Bulbs and Perennials for the Southern Hemisphere' by Richard E. Harrison. The pages have come away from the spine and some are missing, but there are some great strangely-coloured photos and diagrams I could put to use.

Are you an op-shopper? Have you had any great finds lately?

I love to op-shop, but only get to do it when we visit Australia…my best find on my last trip was a very simple wooden doll house for $5.
We unscrewed it and packed it flat for the flight home.

what lovely things! and lovelier for having a small ‘footprint’. Your linen find has reminded me of an old linen find of mine i have stashed that will be perfect for a project for the matariki craft blog hop thingy.

The little cake plate is so sweet. I’m a bit addicted to op-shopping: the thrill of unearthing a real treasure for an amazing price keeps me going back for more.

Ha ..Thats my favourite gardening book – I know exactly what you mean about the strange coloured photos begging to be used. The advice on plants is good especially as it is written for our quarter of the world.

Although a lot of my clothes are secondhand, I have also started looking out for fabric (old curtains or embroidered tablecloths). I found a great hand embroidered tablecloth last week, which I’m sure I can sew into something, just not sure what.

What lovely finds, I’d be very pleased with all of those! Yes I’m a thrift hunter too, I love to rummage through the car boot sales and charity shops, though I’ve promised myself a little clear out before I indulge myself in anymore.
