Letterset 2
I've been trying to write letters, lately. Along with everyone in the world, I love receiving letters. But I don't write enough myself. The old email is just too easy and (sad to say) sometimes the act of handwriting (as opposed to typing) can feel laborious and foreign. But I'm determined to write more paper letters. And so I thought having a stack of stationery on hand would be a good start.

A while back I found a plain set of writing paper (cream) with matching envelopes amongst all my craft supplies. I used some hand-carved stamps to print some matching sets. And on some other pieces, I did a spot of good old-fashioned paper collage. I used mod-podge and some pictures from old gardening books and random bits of paper I'd been saving for such a job.

And now the 'stationery cupboard' is all set up for some serious correspondence. That's the plan, anyway.

I recently read about this letter-writing club in Auckland. Does anyone know if there's one in Wellington?

Have you ever taken a look at my pinterest board 'ways to wrap'? I've been collecting favourite papery tricks on there for a while now.

I do write letters, long ones, very often. It’s a great way to cheat insomnia. I think I might start to spend some of this sleepless time doing stationary…As always, your work looks whimsical! I just love it!

Oh my goodness, these are beautiful and I love the idea of a letter writing club, I really hope their is one in Wellington it sounds great! I really enjoy writing letters but I don’t do it neraly enough and when I do I tend to only half write one and then leave it forgotten in a pile of papers!

I’ve seen that Auckland letter writing club and have fantasies of starting one in Featherston… but want someone else to organise it really. This also makes me feel guilty for not writing to Grandma… she’s been on my to-do list for ages.

Letters, true treasures. It is so easy to forget how easy it also to reflect the days and own doings by writing, letters. I should do it more too.
Last weekend we made a good old paper collage as a birthday card to our friend. It was so much fun.
Almost Mid Summer greetings from the North dear Melissa!

what beautiful stationery! I battled with the conversion to typing…as a writer the very thought process and way of getting that out of my head was so ingrained in me – it was a hard shift to come to the keyboard. I ended up writing a book. That did it! (and, yes, I guess I am that old!). I have a dear friend in the US and she and I write rambling long snail mail letters to one another. There is something about holding paper in my hands that she has held in hers…its special. x

Post is just the best isn’t it! I do send a fair bit myself, though usually I write on cards I find after one side of paper my writing gets a bit lazy and hard to decipher!

I’ve joined the creative penpals project. It sounds like the the speed of technology is overwhelming many people. There were over 100 people signed up for the penpal project. I’m looking forward to excuses to make stationary too.

Love your pretty stationary. I too love receiving letters. The only handwritten notes nowadays seem to be thank you cards. I would love to get back into the practice and hope that my kids have pen pals the traditional way like I did as a kid.

Interesting that you mention the letter writing club – I’m trying to set one up in Christchurch….they affiliate with the Letter Writing Alliance http://16sparrows.typepad.com/letterwritersalliance/calendar-or-letter-socials-world-wide.html I believe.
Maybe you can set one up in Wellington?
