Coconut rough

IMG_0005

I made a few things for Arlo's birthday yesterday- some involved quite a bit of of chocolate, butter, etc. Arlo is a very big fan of cake. Any kind of cake: fruit, nut, carrot, special or plain- he's not fussy and he loves them all. But for his birthday he requested a chocolate cake 'with icing in the middle' and something to take to school to share with his classmates. So I made coconut rough and he said it took just a few minutes for the class to polish it off at 3pm.

Tom and I were thinking about all the houses we've lived in over the past ten years. There have been quite a few of them- something that's caused me maternal guilt when I consider my extremely stable, always-there childhood home. So I made this little painting for A on the occasion of him turning 10. Six houses on six different streets in ten years. It was fun to think about them all and remember how the windows, doors and colours were. Thank you, houses.

Lovely painting of the houses. I hear you about the maternal guilt with moving. Our kid is on her second country and she’s only 5…

Such a neat idea! My husband moved lots as a child and I moved only once, within the same town, I think he’s got quite fond memories about all the houses and cities, make me a tad jealous really! So much more exciting than my childhood! So I wouldn’t worry 🙂 xxx

My adult children some times make me fel guilty about how many houses we have lived in 11 in 24years. Your picture idea is so cool and fun. The slice looks yummy.

That’s so lovely! If it makes you feel any better, someone I know had moved countries EIGHT times before she turned eight – and she’s very well-adjusted and stable. Though does still love to travel… hope your place survived the storm last night x

I’m glad I”m not the only one with this maternal guilt feeling, shared guilt is easier isn’t it?
I love your drawing – I’m thinking my children might want to draw their own pictures of our homes. We’ll be heading to number 7 before too long ourselves (my youngest is now 11). On the upside, they’re really good a packing now and we get to have regular clear outs 🙂

so lovely, what a great idea. I think the adventures are worth celebrating, so much has changed with the whole idea of Neighbourhood – I am still friends with the girl next door I met when I was two! Like you our kids have had many homes – but they always love a new room, and have lived in different countries, and most likely (like Arlo) wouldn’t have it any other way. Happy Birthday to young man x

    Melissa,
I love your little painting of houses.
Peter and Charlotte are living at Bro(ugh) Terrace at the moment and are fixing it up. Changed quite a bit since you and Tom lived there!
