This is something I made for someone I admire- a politician who has been having a rough time of it lately. MT works for issues I deeply care about (namely child poverty and conservation in our fine land) and last year, when reading the newspaper, I saw a photo of her crocheting in Parliament.

Tom crosses paths with her through his job, and deduced that she didn't have a case in which to keep her handwork. So hopefully this will do the job. It's made from dark grey linen, red silk ribbon and this fabric for the lining. Free-form plant embroidery in white thread.

That is so thoughtful, Melissa, I know nothing of NZ politics but she sounds like a fine person. Your embroidery is so delicate and beautiful.

Metiria is wonderful, and I’m so happy she’s going to have one of your beautiful creations to use and cherish. What a thoughtful gift. (Are you as excited about the election this year as I am??)

I absolutely love that you did this – how often would a politician get anything from someone who admired them. Love

Yes wasn’t that whole jacket episode so revealing? I thought to myself, parliament is high school and Collins etc. are the mean girls. They sank lower in my estimation, which I didn’t think was possible. If I were MT I would love the crochet bag, what a kind and thoughtful gift.

As a tall woman myself, with a Nigella type of figure, good on her. I think that’s one reason I’d hate public life, all those mean bi*&hy comments. You have to be so thick skinned.
Tell your husband to tell her to look up Pat O’Shane and Clover Moore, over the pond here in Oz. Some good examples of women in public life, but they have to be sooo tough.

What a crazy petty argument about MT! Honestly what are we paying them for! I hope MT loves it very thoughtful x

What a breath of fresh air, a gift to a politician who is admired. Just wonderful. I met her in Dunedin once and she plays the Uke. SO a crafty musical type, great. She’ll love the bag and I love the fact that she crochets in parliament.

Melissa that is just so lovely!! I too am a big fan of Meteria – and I’m so glad she has a lovely bag made by you to keep her crocheting in. I feel very worried about the election myself – National still seems to be riding so very high in the polls that it is entirely possible that with the help of ACT (who will be given the Epsom seat) they will win a third term. I think I will cry if that happens.
