Stamps 1

Hand-stamped silk

I'm looking forward to teaching the hand-carved stamps and printing class at Handmade again this year. You can read more about the event here. This will be my third year hosting this class, so I'm gathering together some new designs and resources ready for the students. Last weekend I carved a butterfly stamp (from some new black rubber material I found at a craft store- I bought extra for students) and then used it to print some cotton muslin fabric. I never get tired of the combination of ink + stamp + fabric.

I especially love the second photo–the stamping looks light and airy. I might try my hand at this, if I can find fabric ink. Thanks for the inspiration!

Hi Melissa, can you use any old ink to stamp onto fabric or fabric specific ink? Wondering if this is something I can do with what I already have 🙂 Beautiful stamps x

hi lucinda, sorry for the delayed reply! i use versacraft textile ink, it’s from japan but you can find it on etsy. after the print dries, you can iron it to heat-set. then it’s wash-fast. works on natural fibres like cotton, linen or silk. hope that helps!
