Cowl

Ferns

A spot of knitting by the fire this week resulted in this green neck-warmer, or cowl, which I made for a friend's upcoming birthday. The (free) pattern is the drop-stitch cowl by SpiderWomanKnits, the simplest and loveliest little project I can think of to warm up a June evening. I used super-bulky yarn (100gms of this), 9mm circulars and this stretchy cast-off technique that was new to me but is very pleasing indeed. Now I have a couple more to knit, including one for our resident teenager (probably in black).

Is it time for a new craft book or some supplies to get you being creative in the evenings? I've helped arrange a great crafty giveaway, which you'll be able to find here on Friday : ) See you then…

Such a lovely neck-warmer! Leafy, mossy greens are so soothing.

Do you want to know what I do to relax? Lie on the sofa and leaf through Sweet & Simple, dreaming of the day I’ll be able to make all the things in it (by which time I’ll have to gift them to random small children in the street)! That green is very pretty – all this rain is good for ferns, huh?

Oh I must look up that pattern, even tho I am more of a crocheter than a knitter I am trying to get onto the needles

Oh that neck warmer looks awesome. I’m inspired to try to make one now…although I’ve never successfully knitted anything knitted in the round… thanks for the idea and link to the pattern. 🙂

thanks sarah- this would be a great piece to try knitting in the round- its easier than sewing it up at the end!

Hi TinyHappy…I have been home with a cold the last couple of days, the silver lining is I have time for knitting! I attempted this neck warmer in the round after being inspired by your post, but I think I did something wrong when I joined it up at the end of the first row as it ended up all twisted. 😦 so I un-did it all, and knitted it again on straight needles and about to join it up by sewing needle. Do you know if there’s a trick for joining up in the round so it’s not twisted? It was such a lovely pattern I think i will try it again in the round and make one for a friend. 🙂
