Lemons

Embroidery

We had family visiting on the weekend, and they delivered a giant bag of lemons and limes from the family orchard. This is our second batch of lemon curd so far… some has been gifted and a lot has been eaten on toast. I used this recipe with some limes in the mixture too… (gosh, that link makes me realise how long I've been making lemon curd and writing about it!)

And in the evenings I've been working on the embroidery for this project… this is a recent one, inspired by winter yellow and memories of wattle growing along the driveway near the lemon orchard. An all-over print/embroidery in yellow and green on oatmeal linen.

Congratulations to Bridget who won the book giveaway yesterday.

I used your lemon curd recipe last year. Fabulous!
I made lemonade the other day by juicing half a dozen lemons into a bottle and dissolving as much castor sugar in the juice as would dissolve. We put mint and lemon slices into glasses with the lemon juice and sparkling water – the best drink I’ve had in ages!

I love the wattle embroidery, reminds me of my childhood as lots grew near our house.
Lemons are difficult to get here, but I made passionfruit curd this year, which didn’t last long…

So lucky to receive that many lemons. I just picked three lemons off my little potted lemon tree. So tasty. I look forward to having a giant tree one day to pass on lemons to family members too.

Lovely picture as always – I do love your styling. Do you use ordinary linen or is it special even weave? I always embroider on cotton but would like to try linen. Even weave seems like it would be problematic, as the holes are so even and I want to be able to easily put my needle and thread exactly where I like. I have definitely seen some embroidery where the curve (of a stem for instance)is not true because the needle has to go in through one of the natural holes of the fabric – it had a kind of steppy effect.
I would have just bought the linen I saw at the local fabric shop, but I read that I should get linen ‘meant for embroidery’ – it didn’t elucidate though. The only stuff I have seen online is even weave. I would really appreciate any input about this. Thank you πŸ™‚
