Ferns
Stationery 2

I haven't felt like doing anything much this past week (though have had to go work regardless, alas), but the other day I sat down with Keira and her friend and did some drawing and painting with them. I got out a stack of old magazines and we cut them up- K made collages in her scrapbook and I made a big pile of tags, cards, envelopes (like these) and stickers- all for wrapping etsy orders and birthday presents throughout the year. It was fun and a good 'gentle crafty' thing to do. I'm hoping to get stuck into some more creative work this weekend.

When sad things happen in my life, I've always found it alluring to switch off and do nothing: stare out of a window, go to bed earlier, mooch around. But taking a photo, cooking something for someone, making the effort to go for a walk with a friend… these are all things that can have a good healing effect. Do you think so too?

I love the ferns in our garden. They are beautiful all year round.

I send you much love for whatever is sad in your world. Sadness is a part of life, no getting through any decent sort of life without feeling it.For me, it’s how to not get stuck in it. For the big ticket sad events I like to mooch at first. Bury myself in bed. Sleep a lot. Listen to Nick Cave. Then gentle crafting can be so good to get me moving again. Long walks to help keep moving.

Sorry for your sad event. Keeping hands busy, creating, is surely one way to get through it. Withdrawing can also be helpful because it gives you time to start recovering without input from others. However you handle it, I hope you find peace.

When sad things happen I go to bed and stay there. When distressing and sad things happen that are not soon going to get better, I find it hard to process all at once and until I do, I like to get distracted. When my marriage broke up and I was left alone with a three year old (a long long time ago now – she is 26 and we did fine) I went into total crafting mode. I made a whole cupboard full of toys which I gave to my daughter for Christmas. They were all stitched fully by hand and it gave me a focus and something to keep me occupied with. It helped until some later point when the trees cleared a bit and I saw some trees growing.

Yes, I find myself doing some floristry and putting small bunches of flowers around the house. Then I make the traditional Bacon and Egg pie for tea. This is big because my dear husband cooks due to him being semi retired and I work in Aged Care nearly full time. You will start to feel like your old self soon.Kia Kahu

I think that doing what you are doing should help to easy up a bit the hard times of life. There are so many things out there that are out of our control. Hope for better days in the future. May grace and peace be with you!

Being creative always works for me…busy hands and things to keep my mind busy and focused…
Now I’m trying it in a preventative way too, trying to be creative every single day as a little boost of happy. I agree with all those other things you listed too and I hope they have worked for you and things are a little easier than they were…
