Vita

Vita 1(above: Phoebe Blouse. Photo by Anna Allen)

Anna Allen is a talented young designer/maker who specialises in original handmade clothing. Via a tip-off from a friend on Instagram, I found a photo of a beautiful blouse she made for a customer, using Spoonflower fabric.

Read more about Anna's 'Phoebe Blouse' on her blog.

The fabric design, 'Vita', is one of mine from a few years back, (you can find it for sale, in various fabric types, here) inspired by the Bloomsbury Group. I remember that year I binge-read lots of books about Vita Sackville-West and Virginia Woolf and their creative community.

I really enjoyed making fabric designs, I'd like to do some more one day. Thank you, Anna, for letting me use your photo!

I saw this blouse on Anna’s site and just fell in love with the blouse and the fabric! I was wondering if you can recommend the type of cotton that would be soft and work for a blouse like this? I am thinking of ordering some. Thanks!

I too was wondering what would be the best type of fabric to choose. The fabric makes a wonderful blouse. I would love to treat myself to my own item of clothing in this fabric. The blouse is very beautiful, both the wonderful fabric and the design of the pattern. The sewing is pretty good too!

thank you, melissa! to be honest, i’m not sure exactly what fabric anna used (should have asked her that) but will email and find out. 🙂

hi sara, thank you for your message. i’ll ask anna about the fabric type. i have ordered this print in basic cotton (quilting weight) and the voile (lightweight) and would probably prefer to wear a voile shirt… though it would be a strictly summer garment!

Goodness, I have to admit to some blouse envy. I’ve been eyeing your fabric for so long Melissa and I hope to receive a sewing machine for my birthday next month. I think I know what I’ll be aiming for now.

I remember this fabric from when you first designed it – it’s so lovely, Melissa, and how wonderful it looks made up into this pretty blouse!
