Alstroemeria
Cases
Patches 1
I recently had fun piecing together the leftover bits of fabric from other projects (the corners cut out from project bags, mostly) and making some free-form patchwork pieces. At the end of last year, I must have been on a grey-peach-green colour vibe!

I didn't have enough scraps for a whole quilt, so instead used the patchwork to make some handy little pouches and project bags for my etsy shop. I love being able to make things from salvaged pieces… nothing is wasted. Now I'm saving up squares for my next afternoon of patch-sewing… this time it seems to be lots of blues and neutral fabrics.

In other news, Tom and I have been watching the second season of The Crown (along with nearly everyone else I've spoken to lately) which I'm really enjoying. Beautiful set design and lots of interesting history to read up on as you go.

I've just finished Kate Atkinson's Life After Life (highly recommended!) and am now reading Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates which is extraordinary and changing the way I think about things.

Are you reading or watching anything special at the moment?

The flowers at the top of this post are alstroemeria (Peruvian lilies) growing in my Mum's garden while we were visiting this summer. Their peachy-pink petals growing against the white stucco wall needed to be captured.

I really like the peach grey colour schemes of your patchwork. I pigged through Season 2 of The Crown then wish I had savoured it slowly. I love the costume and decor details and was shocked/fascinated by some of the historical plot details. A lot of googling went on after each episode! I’m surprised how much my mother, who didn’t read gossip magazines, knew about the royal family’s lives, especially the tragedy of ‘poor Prince Margaret’ who ‘should have been allowed to marry Peter Townsend.’ Once I watched The Crown I realised that a surprising amount of personal information was treated as important or worthy news and released via BBC radio.

I just finished the book The Hate U Give. https://www.amazon.com/Hate-U-Give-Angie-Thomas/dp/0062498533. It’s a YA book by a first time author. Very good. And a good follow up to Between the World and Me.

Hi Melissa, longtime reader but the first time commenting. I read Between The World And Me last year and found it very affecting too, and am just about to start Coates’ next one, We Were Eight Years In Power (which my partner found very good too). I have just finished the YA novel Wolf Wilder–about a girl who rewilds wolves in Revolutionary Russia–and heartily recommend that! Ooh, and Susan’s rec. above looks really good. Going to add that to my list now!

Yes I did similar to Sally. I also remember my Mum making the same comment about “poor Princess Margaret.”
We are relaxing at home today as it’s Australia Day. Had lamingtons for morning tea at the park with my granddaughters plus a whiff of mosquito spray to stop the bites. It’s quite warm and humid today especially near the trees/shade at the park. Cheers!
