Moon

We've had a series of very hot and beautiful summer days here, so we've been enjoying going on trips and swimming and hanging out on the beach. Two days ago, we went swimming in the sea at midnight, under the full moon. It was the best thing I've done all summer.

I finally got brave enough to cut into the piece of Nani Iro double-gauze I bought last year (from this Japanese etsy shop). I had been hoarding it and not able to decide on a project. But the sunshine prompted me to make something light and airy- I used Simplicity pattern #6239. It's a little on the, shall we say, 'tent-like' side, but fairly cool (temperature-wise) and nice to wear. And I think it would improve with a belt of some sort to give some shape.

This Nani Iro double-gauze is lovely to handle: it's soft yet kind of thick and I found it easy to sew. I truly adore the other designs too- you can see more and some project ideas at the website here.

the top is great; i especially like the pleats. i know what you mean about being nervous to cut such precious fabric. it’s so cold here now, so just imagining sleeve-less weather is a dream. thank you!
the needlecases arrived yesterday; they are so lovely in person! thank you for those too. 🙂

just love the material – went to the etsy shop and saw some other awesome fabric there – I’m very tempted but trying to have self-control 🙂 – – – love your shot of the moon, I took a shot and have put it up on my flickr site but not as half as eye-catching as yours!

I love that fabric, in fact it is on the front of my new summer bag, from AQ bags in Wellington. I couldn’t find it on their website, but you can contact them http://aqbags.co.nz/index.shtml

isn’t the moon fantastic?!? i wanted to take photos last night in our garden of that beautiful moon and the enormous garden spider that lives in our plum tree, but Melbourne was thundery and so Mistress Moon was hidden behind clouds 😦

And what a nice pic of the moon. I envy you, here we’ve had snow for a couple of days now and it’s still snowing.
I am munching on a walnut slice (2nd batch in a week…), they’re sooooo delicious.

Melissa, the other night when the moon was full….it was the fullest, biggest and brightest moon of 2010. It is known as the wolf moon, a moniker dating back to Native American culture and the notion that hungry wolves howled at the full moon on cold winter nights.
What a honor to have splashed within its power!!

what beautiful fabric. well done for grabbing the scissors and being brave enough to cut into it. oh to have some heat here (UK)… a dusting of the snow over the place – again – and sitting around 2 degrees during the day. and friends and family home in perth have a very pleasant 28 degree average at the moment.
